If any of these questions strike a chord with you, head on over to this thread on the forums, cast your vote and let your voice be heard and seen by AR staff.

Next Patch Coming Next Week

// October 17th, 2009 // No Comments » // Rumors

The long awaited patch is coming next week! Though not much has been confirmed, we do know that there will at least be a new city to explore; Gridrock City.  It was announced on the forum that there will be two more meet and greets next Wednesday and Thursday in Gridrock City.

Given that at present the only method to get more cities in world for everyone to enjoy is through patches, it’s certain that the next patch may be even coming by next Tuesday, or even Monday.

We’re still counting on all the other goodies we speculated about in our last post about this upcoming patch, such as individual profiles and more robust messaging, the banishment of the dreaded chat bubbles, the introduction of the official in world currency (the BLU) and maybe a few more surprises!

We’re also convinced that there will be other cities introduced with this coming patch, notably the Qin Tomb being developed by VSE in partnership with National Geographic.

U.S. Army Coming to Blue Mars?

// October 8th, 2009 // 7 Comments » // Rumors

It’s looking like the United States Army could be coming to Blue Mars.  They’re currently running a challenge to anyone who can develop a virtual world where the Army could train and collaborate.  The only requirements for the submissions is that there be no modifications made to the client or server software, not something that is currently being worked on on behalf of the federal government, and that any world may be used as long as it’s free and open, and that you’re over 18 (unless you’ve obtained written permission from parents).  Submissions must be entered no later than November 15, 2009. The Future Economy of Blue Mars

// October 5th, 2009 // No Comments » // Rumors

We’ve been seeing more and more hints around the internet that the costs associated with rental of land and sales in Blue Mars are going to follow a favorable path for all those involved.  Though some tools for development cost in the thousands (3DS Max, Maya, etc…), there are alternatives that are relatively cheap and free.  However, the topic of content creation tools is something for a more in-depth post.

Sneak Peek of Gridrock City

// October 4th, 2009 // No Comments » // Rumors

Looks like the Gridrock team has been busy working on their upcoming city!  Though it seems to be a very stormy atmosphere, The visuals are great, and it looks like it’s shaping up to be a very imaginative and expansive space (but what Blue Mars city isn’t expansive?).  It’s looking good, Gridrock team, we can’t wait to explore!

Next Update a Major Update?

// October 4th, 2009 // 1 Comment » // Rumors

There have been hints from Blue Mars staff and others alike that a new update will be coming “later this month”.  We saw a minor update back on the 25th that didn’t seem to remedy too many issues that we have been told repeatedly are being “worked on”, like chat bubbles, private messages, profiles, and the rollout of the official currency, the Blu.  Though we have no official confirmation (Blue Mars staff are pretty tight lipped) it seems that things are leaning this way.  We’re thinking the update will become available sometime next week, with some free cash for everyone who has an account right now(fingers crossed!).

Also, there are probably going to be a few new Cities to explore, as well as a host of new content for some much needed shopping sprees and apartments for early beta testers to snatch up.  The demand for all of these things is very high, so lets hope Blue Mars doesn’t let us all down.

Sneak Peak of Qin Tomb

// October 4th, 2009 // No Comments » // Rumors

Here’s a  sneak peek of a new city being developed by the same people that brought us New Venice (now known as Venezia), and it should be arriving later this month.  From what we can see, Qin Tomb is going to be another great hotspot to explore and socialize.  For more information and timely updates, check out their website.

Great Expectations

Blue Mars, New Venice, Dome, Grafiti

One of the many beautiful domes in New Venice

Although Blue Mars is still in beta, there is already a lot of excitement about its future.  Many people see the potential of such a rich, scalable environment and are eager to get started on creating a dynamic world to please and entertain the masses.

Though the amount of cities available to visit right now are very slim, there are a lot of city developers working hard to bring their creations to the public.

Even if the content (clothing, vehicles, NPC characters, and other interactive aspects of cities) that is brought in the first few months of Blue Mars isn’t as great as users would like, the cities by themselves are already proving to be vast environments that are excellent for exploring and admiring.
