Showcase: Alpha Klata
// October 5th, 2009 // Showcase
While we’re all waiting for Blue Mars to come out of beta, some people are anxious as to what things are going to be like once everything is open.
Judging from what some creators are already making in their sandboxes, we think everyone is going to be blown away when everything is all put together and open to the masses. One creator that has caught our eye is Alpha Klata. Alpha Klata has been experimenting with his models in the sandbox, and the results are very, very impressive. It’s fun to see all the different angles content developers are taking, like the sci-fi/space theme that Alpha Klata is pursuing. It’s becoming more and more obvious to us that Blue Mars is going to be a great platform for artists and creative folk to realize their dreams and share their visions with the rest of the world. If you’d like to keep tabs on Alpha Klata and see more of his work, check out his blog.

Oooh, tell us more about these sandboxes! Are there publicly-visitable sandboxes where people build stuff and other people can come to see them? i had the impression that in Blue Mars sandboxes were local to the dev’s machine, and no one else could see what was in them. But the picture you post there suggests otherwise. Do tell!
Hi Dale,
I don’t believe there will be public sandboxes, and that these pictures are from a local machine. I’m pretty sure everyone is barred from uploading things directly in world for now, so this is more than likely evidence of Alpha Klata’s amazing skill. Of course, I could be wrong about the upload process, and it may be under the NDA, but we would need Alpha Klata to clear things up.

Alpha Klata is one of our block developer / guild stewards at GridRock City. What you are seeing is Alpha’s work in the Block Editor tool, and has loaded one of our Blocks. The editor serves as and offline builder and allows him to export his content back into our City build process.
Sounds fascinating, I’m sure the folks over at Pixels and Policy would be interested in hearing about the process!
yes peeps, whyroc’s pretty much summed that one up..i think the process for creating for BM is a little more complex than SL, and may cause some to start throwing sticks at it. all it needs is time and patience. Im not doing anything at the moment covered by the NDA, I’m basically modelling to a common goal with whyroc. Its not as easy as rezzing a prim in SL, so specialists are kinda required for the whole production. and while im a bit sad that its not so instant, im glad that the quality is high. thankyou for featuring me here blue-news! id better get on with creating some new stuff!
Great to hear from you Alpha!
We’re wondering if you could explain about the concept of blocks in Blue Mars, we’re under the impression that it’s different from the way land is dealt with in places like Second Life (e.g. Regions, Parcels, etc.). Are the blocks of uniform size and shape, and what shape are they? Will block owners be able to control their blocks like Second Life users can control their land, as in banning individuals or having media streams?
Thanks,
The Blue-News Team
